Saleh Abu Hashim was born in the United Kingdom to parents from a Pakistani background. His first serious encounter with Islamic Studies was in 1997 when he attended a one month long deen intensive in the UK taught by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, Shaykh Nuh Keller and other teachers.He thereafter spent a year in Jordan studying Arabic and a further 4 years working in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi where he took the opportunity to learn with scholars resident in those countries.  He has studied beginner and intermediate level texts in Hanafi & Hanbali fiqh, Aqidah, Hadith and Usul with scholars from Saudi Arabia, Mauritania, Turkey, Syria, Kuwait and the Indian Subcontinent amongst others.
At university he graduated with a degree in Social Sciences and completed a Masters in Education Information Technology with a specialisation in E-learning. He also qualified as a secondary school teacher and worked for 3 years on a Abu Dhabi government project where he helped deliver training to ICT and Arabic teachers as part of a wide ranging school improvement programme. After spending 6 years delivering digital skills training at a London university he currently works for an international company managing a range of e-learning projects. In his free time he contributes to a number of community education projects.
